OUR CAMPAIGN

 NO TOBACCO...

 DOES THAT

 MAKE THEM SAFE?

MORE INFORMATION

This campaign was created by Citlally Alvarado, Ryan Emert, Dakota Passage, Brisa Medina, William Sokol, Ayla Costello, Kevin Chinoski, and Logan Marks.  We wanted to do this project because we wanted our age group and the next to know about the dangers of vaping. In the past few years, vaping has become even more popular with teens and young adults. Vaping has definitely has been a huge deal in high schools all around America. We hope to help our generation understand that even if you vape there are consequences when vaping.

This project was also made in the OTSC NE campus( Oakland Technical School NorthEast ) as well as the survey. As you can see from the statistics only 49% of students have not tried vaping. This means that nearly have of the students at OSTC don't vape which is good because the perception of teenagers now is that everyone vape. With this in mind, we can also say that in other high schools that not everybody vapes there as well. With this campaign, we can raise the awareness of vaping so that the teen that vape decrease over time.

This social norms campaign was done in partnership with the Alliance of Coalitions for Healthy Communities and students from the Oakland Schools Technical Campus Northeast (OSTC) Advance Marketing class led by Elizabeth Diehl.

The Alliance of Coalitions for Healthy communities is a non-profit organization that is committed to building healthy communities through substance abuse prevention, wellness, and recovery support in Michigan. The Alliance is also the umbrella organization for 19 prevention coalitions that blanket Oakland County whose whose goal is to amplify prevention efforts to decrease substance use and misuse before it begins. http://achcmi.org/

SMOKERS WANT TO QUIT (FDA.com)

Yes, vaping products do not contain any tobacco but that doesn’t mean it makes them safe. Vaping products still contain chemicals that are found in traditional cigarettes, like nicotine. Some of those chemicals include “detectable levels of known carcinogens and toxic chemicals” (FDA.com). If you didn’t know, carcinogens are substances capable of causing cancer in living tissue.

Many non-smokers believe that e-cigarettes are safer for themselves and the environment than traditional cigarettes, but a study published by the International Journal of Hygiene and Environmental Health found that e-cigarettes increase concentrations of volatile organic compounds and airborne particles that are potentially harmful when inhaled. When vapor is exhaled, it has a negative impact on air quality, especially indoors.
